Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute discriminates then apologies for rejecting Russian applicant

The Beatson Institute is a Scottish registered charity in Glasgow funded and supported by Cancer Research UK

The email had read: “The Beatson has established a new policy upon which I am unable to appoint you because you are Russian.” Owen Sansom, Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute director, said the organisation “does not have a policy of declining any applications from Russian students on the basis of their nationality”.

Sansom said the organisation has contacted the applicant involved to offer them a place and “have apologised for any distress caused”. He added it is reviewing processes internally to prevent this issue from occurring again in future.

Russian DJ banned from music festivals for not criticising Russia enough

Russian DJ and performer Nina Kraviz has been banned from festivals in Detroit, The Hague and Dortmund.

Time magazine launched a campaign against her. Criticism of the ban included

“Music and sports are the only segments which connect people around the world. Leave them alone.”

A Russian woman has been discriminated against and denied a place on a Masters in luxury Hospitality Management by University of West London, with the university saying

her application to study at the institution would not be taken further due to “the recent events and situation in Ukraine”.
